We are going to Cuba

We have been talking about actually taking a vacation and we have decided to go to Cuba.  This is our xmas presents to ourselves.   Neither one of us have been on a real vacation.  All other vacations we to visit family so this will be our first trip with out family.  We are excited.  So we will have our butts at the airport crow piss on Nov 13.

Our wedding plans haven’t go any further, we did register at Sears and went in for our free engagement session at the photo studio.  The picture is suppose to be ready tomorrow so likely go pick that up tomorrow evening.

The end of September

Well the weather has finally turned.   It is not too cold yet but Thunder Bay has a possiblity of snow for tonight.  I hope that doesn’t come too soon for I still have green tomatoes as well as other veggies still in the garden.  It has been raining more recently.  Which the weather man said  we are going to have a dry fall…my butt!!

The wedding plans are not much further along.  We decided on the center pieces which Karla is going to pickup the piece from the dollar store soon.  The tins we were initially thinking for favours is falling through,  I am unable to get them under 1.10 each so came across some small jars that we will likely go with instead.

I am waiting on the cake people, so Karla can do some cake testing for us.  Both companies are around the same price so whatever one she likes better is whom we will be using.

Photographers are still up in the air, I thought we had it narrowed down until a new company came into view.  They offer video and photos so I am now leaning more that way.  Waiting to see if the new one is available for that date.

My work has season tickets to leafs/raptor’s and tend to give the unused tickets to staff, well Leafs were not an option this year so Kev and I are going to take in a Raptor’s came on the 18th of October.  We have never been to a game so should be interesting.

The marlies first season game is on Sunday so there goes our weekends until May again.

Garden is still growing

The garden is still producing veggies.  I have soo many tomatoes  that we have given some to the neighbours.  We are thinking we will make some salsa to use up some of the tomatoes.   I am awaiting on grams chow recipe from uncle Ronnie.. This has been a slow process since Dad/Ronnie do not remember stuff that well   Lucky enough I have lots of green tomatoes still so there shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

The weather for the past 2 weeks has been more like summer weather then fall.  It is suppose to be 30 with humidex tomorrow.

Tomorrow Kev and I have a meet and greet with the Marlies.  It is the start of the busy hockey season!!!

This time next year I will be Mrs. Kevin Millman.  The down deposit has been paid on the wedding package.  The minister has been booked.  I have a photographer and a cake maker in mind…just waiting for kev’s approval.  The girls have decided on a dress.  Tena is going to pick them up next spring once Baby Wallace arrives, so we can get Karla’s sizes.

The usual going on here

As usually been eating, sleeping, working and repeating.  I haven’t accompished much around the house.  We have been looking at different wedding invitation and trying to find one the meets are taste and pricing.  As a way of saving money we are trying to see if we can make them instead of ordering them.  Checked out a couple different styles…now it is coming down to the accent color.  We are going with brown for the main color and white for printing on but I have been testing with different shades for the accent but Kev it is to much accent color…Oh well will figure something out.

My friend Jules is starting working with me on Tuesday.  She is going to be on a different shift but will be cool to work with her.  Also if she works out my office benefits and I get a referal bonus!!

We are currently in the process of painting the dining room set we received second hand from Tim and Heather.  We couldn’t remove the white stain so we decided to go with my kitchen colors so we are painting in black.  Been wet here so been a slow process.  We only have a shed so we paint them outside then move them into the shed to dry over night…unfortunately that means the lawnmower is outside.

So that is what has been going on  with me recently.

Another week gone by

Well it is friday once again.  Tena and Michael are arriving tonight.  I just checked the status and it is delayed by 30 mins so I have a little bit of time on my hands to get the laundry finished up and put away.

Had to tidy up the house some, have be neglecting in due to the heat.  On Monday the heat wave started so we tried the AC…no go.  So called the landlord so she came in on tuesday to confirm what we told her on Monday so she called the AC man.  He came on Wednesday, topped up the freon and said the blower on the furnace was not working so he couldn’t do anything more until that was fixed.  So landlord had the furnace man in last night and he had to order the part so he came back today to fix up the furnace.  While checking everything out he seen what the AC man done so he did not recommend turning on the AC.. The AC man apparently put triple the amount of freon in on Wednesday now he will need to bleed it off before we can use the AC.   This really sucks for the bedrooms in the house is about 35degrees and I doubt Tena/mike will be comfortable so may put them up in the living room for the night.  We are hoping the AC man will come tomorrow so we can get a good night sleep and they don’t have to be in the living room.

We have most of our time maped out for there visit. We are going to the baseball game, window shopping, pickle barrel restaurant tomorrow.  Sunday we are going to Canada’s Wonderland.  Then Monday they jump on a plane to PEI for 4 days before flying back to Thunder Bay on Friday.

TGIF

Things here are the same.  Work, sleep, eat and repeat.  I have planted everything that I wanted in the garden.  Unfortunately, I don’t think anything is actually growing.  My tomato plants are no bigger then they were when I took them outside.  I did plant already started strawberry plants last week and I have 4 strawberries on them already.  Not sure what they will be like, won’t be long before I will be into them either way.

Our friend Tim/heather are getting rid of their kitchen table and chairs so we are going down tomorrow to pick them up.  It is a pedistal table with 6 chairs.  They painted them so we are going to strip the paint and bring it back to the original solid wood and varnish it.  It will take some time but I am sure it will be work it.

Since we didn’t have a truck, we are renting a van.  We have to pickup the van before lunch so we are going down to home depot to pickup the stripper and such.  Since the depot is beside walmart, I think I will pick up a couple other veggies to start else where in the back yard.  I am determine to get some veggies out of this garden.

After we get the table back home, Kev is going out to his friends Chris’ for the night and I think I will meet up with Jules.  We don’t have any plans yet but will figure it later on tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

Wedding plans have not gone any further then my last post.  Something triggered Kev this week that he wants to start finalize on things.  Which makes sense, it has to happen soon for places/catareres/photographers are starting to book up.   Wendall is going to head out to Caseley’s locations weather permitting to get some pictures.  (Thanks Dad) Once we get the pictures and get some additional information for PeiWeddings we will pick a location when ininvertently will pick the wedding cordinator.

How time travels

Well things here are the same, work and sleep.  I managed to put my self in a garden in the back yard.  Now it is just a matter if anything will grow it in.  The soil up there is very clayee so mixed it with some sand to break it up and mixed in manure and peat moss.   I had started the tomatoes, onions and a couple string beans inside so planted them up and planted carrots, cucumbers and more onions and string beans.  Dad says to spread out the string beans so we will have some ready through out the summer.

The wedding plans haven’t gone much further then the last post.  I am just more confused and anything right now.  Just wish we could mix and match from the different companies.  I would take Caseley’s organization and reputation, with PeiWedding’s pricing and options.   We will be making up a list of items from PeiWedding’s likely latter on today to send so she could provide a quote.  Pei Weddings do not include flowers and caterer’s which is fine since we want a bbq dinner and I want to possibly pick my own flowers.  Caseley’s only include flowers for some of the party so I would need to purchase additional flowers on top of their initial quote.

Work is the same, up to our ears in playing catchup.

Oh ya…

Well I have been reminded that I haven’t updated my site in a while.  Well let’s see what has been happening….Have been attending alot of Marlies hockey games(baby leafs).  We made it into the playoff unlike the real leafs.  We are playing the Manitoba Moose.  The Moose’s are the top in the league however our regular season stats are 6 wins, 1 lose and 0 ties.  So it should be a good playoff.  Game 3 and 4 are Sunday and Tuesday and depeding on the first 4 games if needed game 5 is on Thursday.

The wedding plans are coming slowly… We believe we have the concept already figured out however now it is a matter of finding the location/company we want to do the whole shebang.   Caseley’s have a package that is for the “Lake of Shining Waters”  the pictures look really pretty.  I have emailed them and filled out the form on their site to see what it would cost to substitute the roast chicken for BBQ chicken.  I haven’t heard back from them.   Caseley’s also offer the opportunity to have the ceremony at a location of our choice.   Since we have friends coming down for the wedding we are thinking if we just rent a sucluded location they could have the cottages and we can do the wedding on the lot.  There have been a couple of locations that we are considering but nothing has been sent to further inquire.

Kev was planning on doing some calling around last week however our friend Tim’s father passed away so it got put off once again.

Kev’s birthday is coming up next weekend and I have no clue what to get him.  I know he want his kevlar pants but I don’t have the funds for them let alone have a clue where to purchase them in TO.  Our friend Chris’s birthday is this week so kev and chris are going to celebrate their bday’s together next Saturday at an expensive restaurant that brings your food on swords, it is all you can eat.  I will have to not eat for the day so I will get my money’s worth of food.

Next Saturday day is my works tentative game day.  Since we just finished merging 3 companies into one and starting to get our feet under us, the boss has offered to rent projectors have a game/pig out day at the office.  This is only for our team and our guests.   There is alot of details to be determined yet so once we get a little closer we will know for sure if we are on or not.

Birthday weekend

Well it has  been a while since I update this thing.   I have since picked up my ring, had to go back home for Gram´s funeral and worked a whole lot.   It was time crunch time again at work.   The second migration was complete and it was time to get everything cleaned up before the last migration.   So people put in like 40 hours of over time in one week.  So this week was the week that people were off so they wouldn´t burn out.  I believe everyone is in the office next week to clean up any remaining stuff before the last migration the first week of March.

This weekend I am getting a bunch of friends together to go go karting and out for dinner.  Not everyone is doing both but there is about 6 that are going to go karting so it should be fun.   I decided to go to Montana´s for supper.  It is a steak cookhouse, if you never since the commercials via www.montanas.ca .  When you enter the site there is a moose and a buck talk on the wall.  So from my head count there is suppose to be 12 for supper.  It should be a good time.

It seems since before xmas we have not stopped.  If it wasn´t overtime is was hockey if not hockey it would be something else.   Due to this my house is a disaster.  People are coming over today and I need to get started but I don´t want to wake Kev because he has picked up that nasty cold I had back in January and is still in bed.

First week back

Well it was back to the grind this week.  I  took Monday off just to unwined but that didnt happen.  When we were coming on Sunday, the weather wasnt the greatest so there was a 30min delay in Charlottetown which wasnt since we had a 3hr layover in Halifax.  When we got to Halifax we found out that that flight was going to be delayed but that changed several times.  Either way after 5.5hrs we were on the plane.  We get to Toronto to find out no luggage made it on the plane.  So we finally got home at 2:30.  Kev had to be up in the morning to work so he wasnt in the greatest of humor.  I got up had to get our metro passes for the month at the subway station then I head to the airport to see if our luggage was on one of the three flights that came that morning.  Found the luggage and since we always pack so lightly…NOT!!! I grabbed a cab that cost me 36 to cross the flipping 401 ( airport is on the north side and we are on the southside 7mins cab ride).  So once I got home with all the bags then it consisted of determining what need to be washed and if anything got broke.  We manage to get everything home without any issue.  The scallops were just starting to thaw so they went right into the freezer.   The rest of the day consisted of doing laundry and getting groceries and I found out the power supply in my computer decided to die during our vacation so Kev took the old one out of another computer so I could get back on the interweb.

Then Tuesday was back to work.  Everyone likes the new hair cut and seen my ring.  The week has been busy, our colleague Scott is awall again.  Every Dec-Feb Scott gets sick and we loose him for a long period of time.  It happened last year then he come back afterwards.  This is all fine however we are already a small group and when anyone is missing you feel it.

So the rest of the weeks was quite normal except Friday.  My superviser was off for the day so it was me and two collegues until our manager gets in at 10.  This is no biggie however we are in the process of getting out of the hosting business that was suppose to happen today.  When a migration happens customer have lots of questions so I already figured it would be a busy day.  So when we arrive the migration which was suppose to happen during the night didnt actually happen so it was just a normal quite Friday morning until 8:30 when the day went to hell.  There was an issue sending out mail, so our phones lit up like xmas trees.   So tried to get them those while updating the status pages for our clients to pervent additional calls.  So got most of that done, the our director came and then I started doing the running around for him.   I was down to the email department  to try and get and ETA, get in contact with my manager, find our developer,ect.  So the managed to determine cause of email and resolved that. So things are starting to go back to normal until downstairs lost all their power(power outage for the block, we are on the neighbours grid) so downstairs started to move their stuff upstairs so they could work.  This was all find and dandy however he took the power for the non essensel stuff to put towards the wireless, which meant they took the power away from the upstairs(our departments) resulting in us having no internet.  So we cant do anything for our customer other then try to help them blindly or take down their numbers.  We didnt know how long the power was going to be out so the manager and I were going to head down to our other office and setup a command post so emergency things could be done.  As we got everything gathered up the power came on down stairs.  When the power came on it killed one of the routers so they had to fix that  before we could get internet.  So we finally got internet around 11:30.   The rest of the day was the normal but the first part I dont want to have to do it again anytime soon.

The bright news for Friday, my ring is in.  So we are going to get it today.   We are planning on renting a car for we have lots of errands to do and it will be alot quicker then doing it on three transit systems.
